Automate X (Twitter) with Claude Code

X is the only platform that does not count characters the way you do, and the only one where a GIF is its own kind of attachment.

One command
$ claude mcp add antwork --transport http https://api.antwork.io/mcp

Claude Code adds Antwork with one command and authorizes with a slash command. Nothing leaves the terminal, and there is no API key at any point.

Needs Claude Pro, Max, Team, or an API key.

Connect it

01Authorize with /mcpType /mcp inside Claude Code and pick antwork. It opens an OAuth consent screen in your browser; approving it makes the connection live and the token refreshes itself.
02Connect the social accountAsk Claude Code to connect your account and it returns a connect link per platform. Authorize once and Antwork holds and refreshes that token for you.
03Add the skill (optional)The open-source Antwork skill teaches the agent the right tool order — pull context, draft, then schedule or publish as a second explicit step.

What you can say once X (Twitter) is connected

Draft an X (Twitter) post about what we shipped this week and keep it inside the limit once the link is counted.
Turn the opening of this blog post into something for X, in my voice, no hashtags.
Attach this GIF to the X draft and schedule it for tomorrow morning.
How did my last five posts on X do? Show me impressions and engagement.

What is different about X (Twitter)

Only here

The counter does not match yours

X weighs characters rather than counting them. Every URL counts as 23 however long it is, and anything outside the Latin range counts double. Antwork counts the same way the server does, so a draft that fits here is a draft that posts.

Only here

A GIF is not an image

X is the only platform where Antwork treats GIF as its own media type with its own ceiling: one per post, up to 15 MB, and never beside a photo or a video.

Only here

Four slots, and they do not mix

Up to four images in a post, but images and video can never share one. Ask for both and the agent splits them before it drafts rather than failing at publish.

Only here

It takes a PDF, but on its own

X accepts a document post up to 100 MB. Unlike LinkedIn it cannot ride alongside images, so a document here is the whole post or none of it.

X (Twitter) limits, as the server enforces them

Max characters280
Media per post4
Countingweighted

Posts are capped at 280 characters, and the cap is enforced when you schedule or publish, not silently truncated. X counts weighted rather than by character: every URL counts as 23 regardless of length, and non-Latin characters count double.

  • 4 media items per post, in total.
  • Images and video can never share a post. Ask for both and it has to be split into two.
  • A document cannot be attached alongside other media.

These numbers are read at build time from the same rules file the publishers validate against, so this page cannot claim a limit the server does not enforce.

Questions

Do I need an API key to connect Claude Code?
No. Antwork connects over OAuth — you approve a consent screen in the browser and you are done. There is no key to generate or paste into a URL, which is how most social MCP servers handle it.
Do I need a paid account?
No. The free tier covers one workspace, two connected accounts and 20 posts per cycle, and there is no plan gate on MCP access.
Will Claude Code post without showing me first?
Not unless you ask it to. Drafting and publishing are two separate steps: the agent writes, renders the post card, and only publishes when you confirm.
Does the writing sound like AI?
Antwork learns a voice profile per connected account by reading what you have already published there, and the agent drafts from that profile. On X (Twitter) that includes writing to the length the format rewards, up to 280 characters.
