Your engagement rate, and whether it is any good.

Type your numbers and the answer updates as you go. The same rate is scored against every platform at once, because 2.5% is far above the published median on X and only average on TikTok.

How to read it

That is 5.2× the published median of 0.48%, which Socialinsider measures as likes and comments divided by followers. The median is the only measured point on this scale — everything else is distance from it.

The part every other calculator skips

The same 2.50%, scored on every platform.

A rate only means something next to the network it was earned on. Your number stays fixed; the median underneath it moves. Showing only the platforms whose median was measured against followers.

The three formulas

Three denominators, three different questions.

01

By followers

Am I as engaging as accounts my size?

engagements ÷ followers × 100

The only one you can work out about someone else, which is why most published benchmarks use it. It also falls as you grow, because the denominator grows faster than reach does.

02

By reach

Did this post work on the people who saw it?

engagements ÷ reach × 100

Reach counts people, not views, so this is the fairest read of the content itself. It is also much higher than the followers figure: Buffer measures Instagram at 5.46% by reach where Socialinsider measures 0.48% by followers.

03

By impressions

How hard did the post have to work?

engagements ÷ impressions × 100

Impressions count every view, so one person seeing a post four times counts four times. Always the lowest of the three, and the most honest about how much feed space you used.

Keep the same oneSwitching denominator between months is the most common way to report growth that did not happen.

Where these benchmarks come from

Every median on this page is transcribed from a published study, and none of it is ours. Read the definitions: the studies count different interactions and divide by different things, which is why a platform can appear twice with very different numbers.

FAQ

Questions people ask about the number.

01

What counts as a good engagement rate?

Only relative to the network and the denominator. Socialinsider measures the Instagram median at 0.48% by followers; Buffer measures it at 5.46% by reach. The same account is both, so a number is meaningless until you say which one you mean.

02

Which denominator should I use?

Followers if you want to compare yourself to other accounts, because that is what most published benchmarks use. Reach if you want to judge the post rather than the account. Whichever you pick, keep it — the three produce very different numbers from identical data.

03

Why does my rate drop as I gain followers?

Because the denominator grows faster than the reach does. Every account accumulates dormant followers, and that share grows over time. Watch total engagements alongside the rate, or the healthiest month of your life will look like a decline.

04

What actions count as an engagement?

It depends on who is counting, which is why this page prints each study's definition next to its number. Socialinsider counts likes and comments on Instagram but adds shares and saves on TikTok; Buffer's LinkedIn figure includes clicks. Match the definition or the comparison is meaningless.

05

Why is there no benchmark for YouTube?

Because neither study publishes one. Both report YouTube in views rather than as an engagement rate — Buffer gives a median of about 268 views for Shorts. Rather than score you against a number nobody measured, this page says so.

06

Can Antwork track this for me?

Yes. Antwork records engagement on every post it publishes across all eight networks and reports the rate over time, so you are reading a trend rather than recalculating one post at a time.

Next step

Stop recalculating it by hand.

Antwork measures engagement on every post it publishes, on all eight networks, and reports the rate as a trend. Two accounts free, no card.
