Switch Instagram to a Professional account
Instagram only lets apps post to Professional accounts. Switching is free, takes about two minutes, and keeps your followers and posts.
Why Instagram asks for it
Instagram's publishing API works only with Professional accounts, Creator or Business. When a personal account signs in to connect, Instagram refuses it on its own sign-in screen, so you never come back to Antwork to see why.
Switch in the Instagram app
On your phone, in the Instagram app:
- 1. Open your profile and tap the menu (☰) at the top right.
- 2. Tap Settings and activity.
- 3. Under For professionals, tap Account type and tools.
- 4. Tap Switch to professional account and follow the prompts.
- 5. Pick a category that describes you. You can change it later and it does not affect Antwork.
- 6. Choose Creator or Business. Creator fits a person, Business fits a brand or shop. Either works with Antwork.
Then connect it
Go back to the connect link your AI gave you, or to Connections in Antwork, and choose Instagram. A link from your AI works for 15 minutes; if it has expired, ask your AI for a new one.
Common questions
Does it cost anything?
No. Professional accounts are free.
Do I lose followers or posts?
No. Your username, followers and posts stay as they are.
Will my account become public?
Yes. Professional accounts are public, so a private account becomes public when it switches.
Can I switch back?
Yes, from the same Account type and tools menu. Antwork can no longer post to it after that.
