Slack

Antwork posts the posts that need you to one Slack channel, and with the Antwork Slack app you act on them from there.

What shows up in Slack

Each Antwork workspace connects one Slack channel. You choose which of these it gets on the workspace's Slack page:

EventWhen it is posted
Drafts waiting to be sentA draft your AI or the API made and left unsent for 5 minutes. One sent from the chat in the meantime is never posted. A post with a version per network is one message.
Posts waiting for approvalA post held for approval, in workspaces that require it (Agency).
Failed postsA post that did not publish, with the reason and what to do.
Accounts that need reconnectingAt most once every 24 hours per account, with a link to reconnect.
Published postsEvery post as it goes live, with a link to it. Off by default.
Messages update themselves: when a post is sent, approved or published anywhere, in Slack, the app, your AI or the API, its message loses its buttons and says what happened.

Connect Slack

With the Antwork Slack app (buttons and /antwork)

  1. In Antwork, open your workspace and go to Developer → Slack.
  2. Click Add to Slack and sign in to the Slack workspace you want.
  3. Pick the channel on Slack's page and click Allow.
  4. You are back in Antwork; it posts a hello in the channel. Send test posts another any time.

With an incoming webhook (links only)

No app install needed: messages arrive with links to Antwork instead of buttons.

  1. In Slack, create an incoming webhook for the channel (Slack's Incoming Webhooks app).
  2. Copy its URL (https://hooks.slack.com/services/…).
  3. In Antwork, open Developer → Slack, choose paste an incoming webhook and paste it.

Connecting, changing or removing Slack is for whoever can change the workspace's settings: the owner and admins on Agency, every member otherwise.

Buttons and /antwork

Every button goes through the same checks as everywhere else in Antwork, so a post Slack sends is refused for exactly the reasons it would be in the app (plan limits, the network's rules, a missing image).

ButtonWhat it does
Publish nowPublishes the draft now, on every network in the message.
Schedule for next slotSchedules it at the account's next free posting slot. Without posting slots set, Slack tells you to pick a time in Antwork.
DiscardDeletes the draft from Antwork, after a confirmation.
ApproveApproves a held post; it goes out now or at its scheduled time.
Request changesSends the post back to its author; add a note in Antwork.
RetryPublishes a failed post again.

Who can click them

  • A click counts only from the Slack workspace that was connected.
  • The clicker must be a member of the Antwork workspace, matched on the email Slack has for them: it has to be the email they sign in to Antwork with.
  • They act with their own Antwork role: sending needs the right to send posts, approving needs to be an owner or admin on a plan with approvals. Anyone else gets a private note, and nothing happens.

/antwork

Type /antwork in any channel to see, privately, what is waiting in the connected Antwork workspace: drafts, posts to approve, scheduled posts and this week's failures. /antwork help explains it.

Permissions and data

The Antwork Slack app asks for these permissions, and uses them only for this:

PermissionWhy
chat:writePost Antwork's messages and update them when a post changes.
chat:write.publicPost to the public channel you picked without being invited to it first.
commandsAnswer /antwork.
incoming-webhookLet you pick the channel on Slack's own page when you install.
users:readLook up who clicked a button.
users:read.emailMatch the clicker to an Antwork member by email.

What Antwork stores and sends

  • Stored: the Slack workspace and channel names, and the app's token or your webhook URL, encrypted.
  • Sent to Slack: the post's network, account and text, as plain text (a draft cannot @channel or hide a link), its status, and the failure's advice.
  • Read from Slack: only the email of someone who clicks a button or uses `/antwork`, to match them to an Antwork member. Messages in your channels are never read.
  • Removing Slack deletes the connection and revokes the app's token.

Change or remove it

  • Events: switch each event on or off on the workspace's Slack page.
  • Send test posts a hello and shows Slack's answer if it fails.
  • Disconnect removes the connection and revokes the token; you can also remove the app from Slack's own settings.
  • If the app is removed from Slack, the channel is archived or Slack keeps failing for a day, Antwork switches the connection off and says why on the Slack page. Switching an event back on turns it on again.

Questions

5
Which plans include Slack?
Every plan. The approval buttons appear only in workspaces with approvals, which is an Agency feature.
Can Slack publish something I did not approve?
No. Nothing is published unless a person clicks a button (or sends it elsewhere); Antwork makes no decisions in Slack.
Can I connect more than one channel?
One channel per Antwork workspace. Several Antwork workspaces can each post to their own channel, in the same Slack or different ones.
Does Antwork read my Slack messages?
No. It posts and updates its own messages, and reads only the email of someone who clicks one of its buttons or uses /antwork.
How do I remove it?
Disconnect on the workspace's Slack page in Antwork, or remove the Antwork app in Slack. Either stops every message.
