Best Social Media MCP Servers in 2026: 8 Compared for Claude and ChatGPT

Buffer, Metricool, Postiz, Ayrshare, Zernio, AdaptlyPost, Hootsuite and Antwork all run a social media MCP server. We checked each against its own docs: how it signs in, where it posts, what it costs.

Social media MCP

Most social media tools now ship an MCP server. That means you can connect them to Claude or ChatGPT and ask for a post in plain language instead of opening a dashboard. They are not interchangeable, though. They sign in differently, post to different networks, and gate MCP behind very different plans.

This page compares the eight hosted servers that come up when people ask an AI assistant which one to use. One source per fact: the vendor's own documentation or pricing page, linked in every row. Everything was checked on 10 October 2026. If you only care about LinkedIn, we went deeper in LinkedIn MCP servers compared.

Disclosure: we build Antwork, one of the eight. It is listed with its limits, and where another tool is the better answer for a job, this page says so.

Pick by job

  • You want analytics and competitor research next to publishing. Metricool. Its MCP exposes metrics and reports, inbox messages, Google Business reviews and ad campaigns, and its Free plan already analyses 5 competitor profiles (up to 100 on Starter).
  • You want to self-host, or want open source. Postiz. It is AGPL-3.0 on GitHub, the MCP server ships inside the backend, and its pricing page lists 30 channels, far more than anyone else here.
  • You are a developer building a product on top. Ayrshare. Its MCP mirrors its REST API, including comments, direct messages and per-client profiles, but it needs an API key and paid API plans start at $149 a month.
  • You need the most networks, or ads. Zernio lists 15 social networks for its MCP, including Reddit, WhatsApp, Telegram, Snapchat and Discord, plus tools to boost posts and run ads.
  • Your team already runs on Hootsuite or Buffer. Use their server. Hootsuite splits it by product (publishing, inbox, listening, advocacy); Buffer's connects to the queue you already have.
  • You want drafts that sound like you, with nothing to install. Antwork. Before drafting, your AI reads that account's recent posts and their engagement, so drafts start from how you already write, and nothing goes out until you say so.

Server by server

Antwork (ours). A hosted server at https://api.antwork.io/mcp. You add the URL to your AI app, sign in, and connect your social accounts once, with no API key anywhere. It posts to LinkedIn (profiles and company pages), X, Instagram, Facebook Pages, Threads, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest, with images, video and LinkedIn PDF carousels. Every post lands as a draft first; scheduling and publishing are separate steps you ask for. Before drafting, your AI reads that account's recent posts and their engagement, so there is no voice profile to fill in. It works in Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Codex and Gemini CLI. Limits: eight networks, so no Bluesky, Reddit or Mastodon. No social inbox, no DMs, no competitor research, no ads, and it cannot be self-hosted. Above about ten accounts, Zernio's graduated per-account price ($3 from the 11th account) is cheaper than Antwork's flat $5.

Buffer. Buffer's developer docs give the server as https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp, connected "using OAuth. No API key needed", in Claude on the web, Claude Desktop and Claude Code. Buffer's August 2026 guide lists what it does: view scheduled posts across channels, draft and schedule new ones, rewrite a post for another platform, edit the queue, and save ideas. It says the MCP "works across every channel Buffer supports" and that "Buffer has MCPs for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Cursor, Raycast, n8n". Neither page mentions analytics through the MCP, and neither says whether the Free plan includes it.

Metricool. The strongest analytics tool here. Its official MCP at https://ai.metricool.com/mcp can manage brands, "see and download metrics and reports", "see, create, and publish posts in any connected network", and also manage inbox messages, Google Business reviews and ad campaigns. Its help center states the MCP "works on any Metricool plan, including Free", with Free limits still applying: no more than 20 scheduled posts and 30 days of analytics. In ChatGPT it is a verified app you can find in the Apps section. One honest caveat from Metricool itself: the permissions grant full access to your account, "similar to logging in directly".

Postiz. The open-source option, AGPL-3.0 on GitHub, with the MCP server built into the backend so a self-hosted install gets it too. The hosted endpoint is https://mcp.postiz.com/mcp, authenticated with an API key either in the URL or as a Bearer token. Its 13 tools schedule, draft and publish, list posts, and generate images, videos and clips from long YouTube videos. Its docs say comments cannot be read or replied to through MCP, and the tool list has no analytics. Every hosted plan includes the MCP, starting at $29 a month.

Ayrshare. A developer API first. Its MCP at https://api.ayrshare.com/mcp exposes 33 tools covering posts, analytics, comments, direct messages and profiles for each of your clients, with the same rate limits and quotas as the REST API. It authenticates with a static API key, and its setup page is blunt that claude.ai personal connectors cannot authenticate, so it points you to Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or n8n instead. It also says X operations need your own OAuth 1.0a credentials. Paid API plans start at $149 a month; which plan includes MCP is not stated.

Zernio. The widest network list. Its MCP blog lists 15 social networks plus ad platforms, with tools to schedule, queue, read analytics in one shape across networks, and boost posts. Its Cursor setup page says the server "authenticates with OAuth 2.1", with API keys for headless setups. Pricing is per connected account: two free, then $6, $3 and $1 per account as you scale, and the MCP "has no separate fee".

AdaptlyPost. A hosted server at https://mcp.adaptlypost.com/mcp with OAuth or an adaptly_ API token. Its docs list 31 tools: posting, bulk scheduling, recurring series, analytics and AI captions and images, which spend AI credits. It names Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf and Codex as clients. Which plan includes MCP is not stated; plans start at $19 a month.

Hootsuite. Four servers, one per product: Perch for publishing, analytics and the planner, Nest for the inbox, Lumen for listening and competitive intel, Parliament for employee advocacy. You sign in with your Hootsuite workspace and need access to the relevant product. It is the only one here with social listening through MCP. Plans start at $99 per user a month, and the page does not say which include MCP.

How to connect a social media MCP server

The steps are the same for any hosted OAuth server. Here they are with Antwork's URL; swap in your vendor's.

  • Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://api.antwork.io/mcp, then sign in when asked. Walkthroughs: Claude to LinkedIn, Claude to Instagram, Claude to TikTok.
  • ChatGPT: turn on Developer mode in Settings → Security and login, open Plugins in the sidebar, click +, and paste the URL. ChatGPT only accepts remote servers, so local GitHub servers will not work here. Walkthroughs: ChatGPT to LinkedIn, ChatGPT to X.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add antwork --transport http https://api.antwork.io/mcp, then /mcp to sign in.
  • Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf: add the URL as a remote MCP server in the editor's MCP settings.

Then ask for something concrete: "Draft this week's launch post for LinkedIn and X, each in the style of that account's last posts, and schedule them for Tuesday at 9."

Before you give an AI publish rights

  • Prefer OAuth over pasted keys. An OAuth grant can be revoked from the vendor's settings. An API key in a URL or a config file lives wherever that file goes.
  • Keep a review step. An assistant with publish rights and an untrusted email or web page in its context can be talked into posting. Choose a server that creates drafts and publishes only on an explicit request.
  • Check what the grant covers. Some servers reach your inbox, ads and reviews, not just posts. Metricool says its permissions are "similar to logging in directly".
  • Read the plan, not the badge. "Has an MCP" and "your plan includes the MCP" are different claims, and half the vendors here only make the first.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still stuck? Talk to us
Does Buffer have an MCP server?
Yes. Buffer's developer docs give an official MCP server at https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp that connects 'using OAuth. No API key needed', in Claude on the web, Claude Desktop and Claude Code. Buffer's own blog says it also has MCPs for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Cursor, Raycast and n8n. Buffer does not state which of its plans include MCP access.
Does Metricool have an MCP server?
Yes. Metricool's official MCP is at https://ai.metricool.com/mcp, and its help center says it 'works on any Metricool plan, including Free', with your plan's limits still applying (for example, Free cannot schedule more than 20 posts). Metricool also says it is 'a verified connector in ChatGPT's Apps section'.
What is the best social media MCP server for Claude?
It depends on the job. For publishing with OAuth and no API key, Buffer, Metricool, Zernio, AdaptlyPost, Hootsuite and Antwork all work as claude.ai custom connectors. For analytics and competitor research, Metricool. For an open-source tool you host yourself, Postiz. Avoid API-key-only servers in claude.ai: Ayrshare's docs say personal connectors there cannot send the header it requires.
Can I use a social media MCP server with ChatGPT?
Yes, if it is a hosted server with a public URL. Metricool says it is a verified app in ChatGPT's Apps section. Buffer, Postiz and Antwork say they work with ChatGPT. For the others, the vendor's MCP page does not mention ChatGPT, so check before you rely on it.
Is there a free social media MCP server?
Metricool's MCP works on its Free plan. Zernio and Antwork both make the first two connected accounts free. Postiz is open source (AGPL-3.0), so self-hosting it costs no licence fee, while its hosted plans start at $29 a month. Buffer has a free plan, but does not say whether MCP is included in it.
Which social media MCP servers can I self-host?
Of the eight here, only Postiz. Its MCP server starts as part of the Postiz backend, and its docs list the paths your reverse proxy must forward. Every other server on this page is hosted by the vendor.
