"Not stated" means the vendor's own page does not say. It does not mean the feature is missing. Vendors change fast in this space, so open the linked page before relying on any single cell.

Meta's official MCP servers do not post for you. Meta runs three: the Ads MCP for campaigns and reporting, the Meta Social Technologies MCP for developers managing apps and webhooks, and the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP for messaging. None publishes an organic post to a Facebook Page, an Instagram account or Threads. So if "Meta MCP" meant running ads from Claude or ChatGPT, use Meta's Ads MCP. If it meant posting to Meta's apps, especially Threads, the servers on this page are the answer, and they are all third-party.

This page uses two sources only: Meta's developer documentation for its MCP servers and the Threads API, and each vendor's own documentation and pricing. Everything was checked on 22 October 2026, and every row links to where the fact came from. For Facebook or Instagram alone, see Facebook MCP servers and Instagram MCP servers; for every network, social media MCP servers.

Meta's official MCP servers

Meta's MCP overview lists three remote servers. All of them sign you in with "OAuth-based authentication with Read and Manage scopes", and the validated clients are Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT (Web), Codex and Cursor.

Meta's announcement of 29 April 2026 introduced the ads server as an open beta. Meta does not state a price for any of the three. If your job is ads, stop here: a first-party server is the safest place to give an AI access to your ad spend. Pipeboard is the hosted third-party alternative, a "Meta Ads MCP" that "connects Facebook and Instagram advertising to Claude, ChatGPT", with a free plan (site).

What Meta's Threads API lets any MCP server do

Facebook and Instagram have their own pages with Meta's rules for each. Threads is the one that comes up least, and it is a separate API: a Meta app needs the Threads use case and uses "the Threads app ID and its corresponding app secret", not Instagram's.

Three practical consequences:

  1. Publishing and replying are separate grants. A server can post to Threads without being able to touch replies, and the other way round. Check which permissions a tool asks for.
  2. Your own Meta app works, but only for you. Until App Review, an app serves people with a role on it, such as a Threads Tester. That is why the GitHub servers below are a legitimate route for your own profile and a hosted tool is the route for everyone else.
  3. Anything that likes, follows or reposts for you is not on this API. Those actions are not in the Threads API guides, so a server that offers them is driving a logged-in browser.

Pick by job

  • Post to Facebook, Instagram and Threads from Claude or ChatGPT, no token. A hosted OAuth server with its own approved Meta apps: Antwork, Buffer, Metricool, Postiz or RobinReach.
  • Thread chains and reply moderation. Zernio documents thread sequences plus comment reply, hide and delete for Threads. Postiz and Ayrshare also publish chains.
  • Free, with analytics. Metricool's Free plan includes one Facebook, one Instagram and one Threads connection, and its MCP works on that plan.
  • Free code on the official API, for your own profile. quinnjr/threads-mcp, with a Meta app you create.
  • Run ads. Meta's own Ads MCP, above.

The servers, one by one

Antwork

OursVendor docs ↗

A hosted MCP server at https://api.antwork.io/mcp. You add the URL to your AI app, sign in to Antwork, and connect Facebook, Instagram and Threads on each one's own login screen. For Threads it asks Meta for three permissions only: threads_basic, threads_content_publish and threads_manage_insights. It publishes text up to Threads' 500 characters and carousels of up to 20 photos and videos mixed, with videos up to 5 minutes, schedules them up to 30 days ahead, and reads back each post's views, likes, replies, reposts and quotes. Before drafting, your AI reads that account's recent posts, so drafts start from how you already write on Threads rather than on Instagram, and every post lands as a draft you approve. The same connection covers Facebook Pages, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest and Bluesky. Walkthroughs: post to Threads from Claude and from ChatGPT.

Limits
No thread chains, no reading or answering replies, no reply approvals, and no ads. Facebook means Pages, and Instagram means professional accounts, as with every API tool.

Buffer's MCP connects to the queue you already have, and it is "included on every plan, including Free". Its Threads help page is the most detailed of any vendor here: up to 25 posts per thread on the Free, Essentials and Team plans, one video up to 5 minutes, and a 250-post daily limit where every post in a thread counts. It is also honest about the gaps: "Scheduling Quotes or Reposts in advance is not possible at this time", and alt text, GIFs and polls are not supported. Threads scheduling needs one of Buffer's new plans.

The free pick for Meta's three apps. Metricool's pricing page lists Facebook, Instagram and Threads on the Free plan, one connection each, and its MCP at https://ai.metricool.com/mcp works "on any plan, including Free", reading metrics and reports and publishing to "any connected network". The Free plan schedules up to 20 posts a month. Its help article does not describe Threads chains.

The open-source option, AGPL-3.0. Its Threads page covers "single posts, image or video carousels, and chained replies", where "Postiz will publish each reply in order once the parent thread goes live", plus Threads analytics and an MCP that "lets AI assistants like Claude and Cursor schedule Threads posts through OAuth". If you self-host, you register your own Meta apps.

The inbox pick. Zernio's Threads docs list "Text, Image, Video, Carousel, Thread sequence" and comment management to "Comment, reply, delete, hide and unhide", with analytics for views, likes, comments and shares. Note its carousel limit is 10 images, half of what Meta's API allows. The same server covers Facebook Pages and Instagram, including Instagram DM replies. Two accounts are free, then $6 each.

A developer API first. Its Threads docs cover carousels of "up to a combined total of 20 images or videos" and a thread: true option that splits long text into "a connected thread series with optional numbering and media". The MCP authenticates with an API key in a Bearer header, which claude.ai personal connectors cannot send, so it suits Claude Code, Cursor or your own agent. API plans start at $149 a month.

RobinReach

Vendor docs ↗

A hosted scheduler whose MCP URL "has no API key in it": you add it to Claude as a custom connector and sign in, with "a normal OAuth click" to Threads and no Meta developer app. It writes Threads posts and multi-post chains and schedules them, across 13 networks including Facebook and Instagram. ChatGPT works in Developer mode on a paid plan. The MCP is not on the free Seed plan; it starts on Bloom at $24 a month.

The GitHub servers

quinnjr/threads-mcp is the do-it-yourself route on the official API, MIT-licensed. It creates threads with text, images or videos, replies, reads replies and conversations, and gets insights. It needs your own Meta app ("You cannot use simple API keys") and runs locally, so it works in Claude Desktop and Claude Code but not in claude.ai or ChatGPT unless you host it.

bintangtimurlangit/threads-mcp does more, and risks more. It "drives a real logged-in browser session using your own cookies" to post, reply, quote, like, repost and follow. Its own README warns that Meta "can restrict or ban accounts that behave like bots" and that the session cookie is "a bearer credential for your entire account". Use it with a test account, not your brand's.

How to connect a Meta MCP server

The steps are the same for any hosted server. Here they are with Antwork's URL; swap in your vendor's.

  • Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://api.antwork.io/mcp, sign in, then ask Claude to connect Threads and approve it on Threads' own screen. Walkthrough: post to Threads from Claude.
  • ChatGPT: Antwork is an official app in ChatGPT's directory: open its listing, click Connect, sign in and approve. For a server that is not listed, turn on Developer mode in Settings → Security and login, open Plugins in the sidebar, click +, and paste the URL. Walkthrough: ChatGPT to Threads.
  • Claude Code: run claude mcp add antwork --transport http https://api.antwork.io/mcp, then /mcp to sign in.
  • Meta's Ads MCP: add https://mcp.facebook.com/ads the same way and sign in with Meta.

Then ask something concrete:

Before you give an AI publish rights

  • Prefer OAuth over pasted tokens and cookies. An OAuth grant can be revoked from your Meta account settings. A session cookie in a config file is your whole account.
  • Keep a review step. An assistant with publish rights and an untrusted web page in its context can be talked into posting. Choose a server that creates drafts and publishes only on an explicit request.
  • Check what the grant covers. On Threads, publishing, replies and insights are separate permissions. A server that asks for threads_manage_replies can answer and hide replies, not just post.
  • Know the ceilings. 250 API-published Threads posts and 1,000 replies per profile per 24 hours. No tool gets around that, and none should try.

Post from your AI, in your own voice.

Connect Claude or ChatGPT once. Drafts start from your recent posts, and nothing goes out until you approve it.

FAQ

Meta and Threads MCP servers, answered

What is the Meta MCP?
"Meta MCP" usually means Meta's own Model Context Protocol servers. Meta's developer docs list three remote servers: the Ads MCP for managing ads, the Meta Social Technologies MCP for developers managing apps and webhooks, and the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP. They use 'OAuth-based authentication with Read and Manage scopes' and Meta lists Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT (Web), Codex and Cursor as validated clients. None of them publishes organic posts.
Can Meta's official MCP post to my Facebook Page, Instagram or Threads?
No. The Ads MCP covers reporting, ad and campaign creation, catalogs, signals, A/B tests and activity logs. The Social Technologies MCP says 'Webhooks are the only area the server can write to.' The WhatsApp server sends messages, not posts. To publish organic posts from an AI assistant you need a third-party server on Meta's publishing APIs.
Is there an official Threads MCP server?
No. Meta's MCP documentation lists no Threads server, and neither Anthropic nor OpenAI ships a Threads connector. Every Threads MCP server is third-party, either on Meta's Threads API with your permission, or driving a logged-in browser session.
Can Claude or ChatGPT post to Threads?
Yes, through a hosted third-party MCP server. Antwork, Buffer, Metricool, Postiz and RobinReach use OAuth, so you add the server's URL to Claude as a custom connector and sign in. ChatGPT needs a remote server; Antwork is an official app in ChatGPT's directory, and other servers are added by URL in Developer mode.
Can an MCP server post a Threads chain?
Some can. Postiz publishes 'chained replies', Zernio supports a 'Thread sequence' post type, Ayrshare splits text into a connected series with thread: true, Buffer allows up to 25 posts per thread, and RobinReach publishes multi-post chains. Antwork publishes single posts and carousels, not chains.
Can an MCP server reply to Threads comments?
Through Meta's API, yes, with separate permissions: threads_read_replies to read and threads_manage_replies to reply. Meta's reply management guide also covers hiding top-level replies and reply approvals. Zernio documents replying, hiding and deleting comments, and quinnjr/threads-mcp has a reply tool. Antwork does not manage replies.
Is there a free Threads MCP server?
Yes. Buffer's and Metricool's MCPs work on their Free plans, Antwork and Zernio make the first two connected accounts free, and the open-source GitHub servers are free. Postiz is free if you self-host it. RobinReach's free Seed plan does not include its MCP, which starts on the $24/month Bloom plan.
