Can ChatGPT Post to Social Media? Yes, With a Plugin. Here Is What Works on Each Network
ChatGPT writes the post but cannot publish it on its own. A plugin connected to ChatGPT can. What works on Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads and Pinterest, checked against each plugin's own listing and each network's own rules.
Can ChatGPT post to social media? Not on its own: ChatGPT writes the post, and a plugin you connect to ChatGPT publishes it (OpenAI renamed ChatGPT apps to plugins in 2026; its developer docs are now titled Plugins). OpenAI's help center says the apps it builds itself "are search-only today and do not support write actions", so posting always goes through a third-party plugin with its own access to the network. On 13 October 2026, five plugins in ChatGPT's plugin directory could schedule social posts (Metricool, Pallyy, post bridge, Postiz and Tailwind), and Antwork and Buffer connect by URL in developer mode.
What you can post then depends on the network, because each one has its own rules for apps. This page goes network by network. For the full side-by-side of every plugin, see the best ChatGPT plugins for social media.
The short answer
- ChatGPT alone: writes captions, threads, scripts and images. Cannot publish.
- ChatGPT plus a plugin: drafts, schedules and publishes. The plugin holds the access to your account, and ChatGPT asks it to act.
- Two ways to add one: a plugin from ChatGPT's directory (Settings, then Plugins), or an app by URL in developer mode for servers that are not listed.
How ChatGPT posts, step by step
- Add a plugin. From the directory, open Settings, then Plugins, choose the plugin and connect your account. For an app added by URL, turn on developer mode and create an app with its MCP URL; for Antwork that is
https://api.antwork.io/mcp. - Connect the networks inside that plugin, with each network's own sign-in.
- Ask in the chat. For example: "Draft an Instagram caption and a LinkedIn post about our launch, and show me both before scheduling."
- Approve. OpenAI says ChatGPT "may ask for approval before reading information or completing an action". Leave that on until you trust the app.
Yes, with an app, on a professional account. Meta's content publishing guide covers publishing "on Instagram professional accounts", and limits each account to "100 API-published posts within a 24-hour moving period". It supports single images (JPEG only), videos, Reels, carousels of up to 10 items and Stories.
From ChatGPT: Pallyy, post bridge and Postiz name Instagram in their directory listings, Metricool's MCP covers it (Claude listing), and Antwork posts to Instagram in developer mode. Walkthrough: ChatGPT to Instagram.
Yes, with a plugin. LinkedIn has its own plugin in ChatGPT, made by LinkedIn, but its listing says it is for looking up professionals: "See their title, company, location and follower count." It does not post.
To post, use Pallyy, post bridge or Postiz, which name LinkedIn in their ChatGPT listings, Metricool (whose Free plan does not include LinkedIn, per its pricing), or Antwork or Buffer in developer mode. Company pages need an app approved for LinkedIn's Community Management API; LinkedIn MCP servers compared shows which ones post to pages. Walkthrough: ChatGPT to LinkedIn.
X
Yes, with a plugin. Pallyy, post bridge and Postiz name X in their ChatGPT listings, Metricool's MCP covers it, and Antwork posts to X in developer mode. A search of the directory for "twitter" on 13 October 2026 returned no plugin made by X itself. Walkthrough: ChatGPT to X.
Yes, to Facebook Pages, with an app. Pallyy, post bridge and Postiz name Facebook in their ChatGPT listings, Metricool's MCP covers it, and Antwork posts to Facebook Pages in developer mode. Personal profiles and Groups are a different matter; Facebook MCP servers compared covers what Meta's API allows. Walkthrough: ChatGPT to Facebook.
TikTok
Yes, with an app, but check that its TikTok app is audited. TikTok's Direct Post guide says "All content posted by unaudited clients will be restricted to private viewing mode." So a tool can post to TikTok and still have your video stay private if TikTok has not audited its app. Pallyy, post bridge and Postiz name TikTok in their ChatGPT listings, Metricool's MCP covers it, and Antwork posts to TikTok in developer mode.
YouTube
Yes, with a plugin. Pallyy, post bridge and Postiz name YouTube in their ChatGPT listings, Metricool's MCP covers it, and post bridge's own listing schedules one video to "TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts". Antwork uploads videos and Shorts in developer mode. YouTube files a video "up to 3 minutes" long "with a square or vertical aspect ratio" as a Short (YouTube Help). For every YouTube server, including self-hosted ones, see YouTube MCP servers compared.
Threads
Yes, with a plugin. Pallyy, post bridge and Postiz name Threads in their ChatGPT listings, Metricool's MCP covers it, and Antwork posts to Threads in developer mode.
Yes, with a plugin. Tailwind is the Pinterest specialist in ChatGPT's directory: it drafts Pins from a webpage, schedules them to boards and shows posting times. Pallyy, post bridge and Postiz also name Pinterest, Metricool's MCP covers it, and Antwork posts Pins in developer mode.
What ChatGPT does well on its own
Without any plugin, ChatGPT is still the writing half of the job: first drafts, rewrites per network, thread splits, hashtags and image ideas. The step it cannot take is the last one, and that is what the plugin is for. If you use Claude instead, the same split applies; see the best Claude connectors for social media.
Founder of Antwork, the social media manager that lives inside your AI. Writes about posting from Claude, ChatGPT and the editor.
Post from your AI, in your own voice.
Connect Claude or ChatGPT once. Drafts start from your recent posts, and nothing goes out until you approve it.
